Due to a vulnerability which was disclosed in 2019, Apple’s AirDrop protocol for file sharing leaks private sensitive information and is now actively exploited by the Chinese government to identify regime critics. In 2021, a research team from the ENCRYPTO group in collaboration with the SEEMOO lab have proposed with PrivateDrop a privacy-preserving solution and sincerely hope that Apple adopts it to protect privacy of their users.
